19   Workplace First Aid
Course Content:
·         Creating and maintaining a safe environment for the victim, bystander and self until medical or ambulance assistance arrives.
·         Identification and management of an unconscious person.
·         Initiation and maintenance of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a collapsed person.
·         Control of bleeding from an external wound or nose bleed. Recognition of the symptoms and signs of internal bleeding and shock and its management.
·         Assessment and appropriate care of various wounds, including an abrasion, laceration puncture wound, severed part, burn or scold.
·         Recognition and appropriate management of the person with an asthma attack, a diabetic emergency, dislocation, drug overdose, a fracture, heat exhaustion or heat stroke, heart attack, head injury, hypothermia, poisoning by ingestion, inhalation or injection, a seizure, soft tissue injury or a stroke.
·         Completion of an incident-illness report, noting relevant symptoms, signs and management prior to referral.
